Comparison matrix

Eight measures. Years exposed.

Bars show position within this 145-country comparison set, not a global rank. Settlement and investment shares are descriptive, not scored as inherently good or bad.

What these numbers mean

GDP / person Annual economic output per resident, adjusted for national price levels and expressed in current international dollars. It is not household income.

Life expectancy Expected years of life at birth if that year’s mortality rates continued. It is not a forecast for a person who is already an adult.

Electricity access Percentage of the population with an electricity connection.

Urban population Percentage living in areas each country classifies as urban. It describes settlement, not urban quality.

Transport infrastructure World Bank Logistics Performance Index survey score for trade and transport infrastructure, from 1 (low) to 5 (high).

Logistics performance Overall World Bank Logistics Performance Index score across customs, infrastructure, shipment ease, service quality, tracking, and timeliness, from 1 (low) to 5 (high).

Manufacturing share Manufacturing value added as a percentage of GDP. A larger share is not automatically better.

Capital formation Investment in fixed assets such as buildings, machinery, roads, and other infrastructure as a percentage of GDP. It is not household saving.

About the bars: Each bar places that value between the lowest and highest observation in this 145-economy set for the same measure. Bars cannot be compared across different rows and are not an overall score.

  • No overall development score is calculated.
  • Percentile-style bars are confined to the 145 countries and economies in this comparison set.
